Sunday, May 20th- Jazz88 Presents The Snoose Boulevard Stomp Concert and Dance Party with Butch Thompson and Friends

Jazz pianist Butch Thompson will host a unique dance party on Sunday, May 20th at the Cedar Cultural Center, in the heart of Minneapolis' West Bank neighborhood at 416 Cedar Avenue S.  Showtime is 7 pm.   In addition to Butch's specially formed Hiawatha Jazz Band playing for dancing, on the bill are ballroom dancers/instructors Bill and Shannon Butler  and choreographer Sarah LaRose , who will premier "A Solas," a new collaborative dance piece with Butch.

During the early 1900s, the West Bank and Cedar Avenue, its main thoroughfare, were known as "Snoose Boulevard," the center of Swedish-American culture in the city.  The term was revived during the '70s by the fondly remembered "Snoose Boulevard Festival' and its creator, folklorist and musician Maury Bernstein

The sweetness and buoyant rhythm of New Orleans music took hold of Butch Thompson's life at an early age and hasn't let go.  His roots are deep, and he has traveled widely.  A lifelong Minnesotan, he is also a former West Bank resident and was on the faculty of the West Bank School of Music for most of the 1970s.

Admission is FREE but reservations are required on a first come basis.

TRIO BOSSA NOVA is a new and fresh sound on the Twin Cities’ music scene. While Ticket To Brasil is constantly evolving, expanding, and currently moving towards the electric sound of Afro-Brazilian fusion, its newest offspring is moving in opposite direction, that is toward classic acoustic bossa nova.
Formed by Ticket To Brasil‘s members, TRIO BOSSA NOVA offers everything that the term bossa nova itself promises. Lidia Berman on vocals and percussion, Pavel Jany on guitar and Andrew Foreman on acoustic bass deliver vibrant mosaic of music ranging from sultry, elegant and jazzy bossa nova classics to unique and complex original compositions. TRIO BOSSA NOVA once again proves that less can sometimes be more.
